Dedicated to the Environment and the Preservation of Our Land

The CCR Foundation, Inc. formally achieved its official status as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation and public charity in September 2021, following rigorous recognition by both the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and the State of Michigan. This critical legal designation ensures full transparency and enables tax-deductible contributions. Crucially, the Foundation operates as an independent and separate organization from Canada Creek Ranch, assuring donors that all funds are solely dedicated to the Foundation’s charitable mission.

In its inaugural year, the CCRFoundation’s Board of Directors prioritized establishing a strong, lasting framework. They focused intently on creating a robust multi-year strategic plan, implementing necessary business and transparent reporting practices, and diligently identifying worthy, impactful projects to launch our mission and ensure long-term success.

A Little History

Canada Creek Regional Foundation

Conservation-minded volunteers from the Canada Creek Ranch membership organized a plan to encourage others who live or visit the Canada Creek watershed area to actively support efforts to preserve and improve its natural resources.

These volunteers focused on creating a practical way for like-minded people to lend their support to projects that preserve and protect the area’s land, waters, and wildlife. They also recognized the long-term benefits of nurturing a mindset of respect and conservation for nature among the area’s young people.

They believed that a public charity with a dual mission of conservation and education would be the best tool to encourage good works while affording donors a tax-advantaged way of supporting these efforts.

In September, 2021, the State of Michigan and the Internal Revenue Service recognized the CCR Foundation, Inc. as a public charity and granted it the status of a 501c3 nonprofit corporation, independent and separate from Canada Creek Ranch.

In its first year of operation, the Foundation’s board of directors focused on creating a multi-year strategic plan, establishing necessary business and reporting practices, and identifying worthy projects to support.

Through the generosity of donors, the Foundation was able to award three scholarships to Atlanta and Onaway High School seniors and a donation to the Atlanta High School Robotics Team. Keeping with its dual mission of conservation and education, the Foundation is collecting contributions for the CCR Historical Museum which will offer educational opportunities to area residents and visitors.

Going forward, the Foundation is pursuing partnerships with other foundations and individuals who support its aims.
